More from Irene

8.30.2011

Some of our footage from Sunday, August 28th, 2011. This was taken at about 1:00pm on the Stillwater Bridge, before it was closed off. Warning: the video below contains some inappropriate language. What can we say?! We were a little stunned, scared, & genuinely freaked out. Especially since we've never seen something like this before.

The bridge at the end of our road, after it was closed. Basically connects us to the rest of the town.
--

Notice the house that is almost, completely submerged.

A pumpkin patch.

All photos from Deerfield MA. Taken August, 28th 2011

Luckily, we live high enough and far enough, from the river to not have directly suffered from any of Irene's flooding. Others were not so fortunate. Please pray of everyone on the east coast who has been forced out of their homes and communities. I know that it will be months before the mud and debris is washed away completely, and their homes are safe to live in.

She's here!

A special breakfast. Just for you Irene. Happy Hurricane Day!

Amber kitty. Taking cover.

The Deerfield River, from the Stillwater bridge in Deerfield MA. Normally the river is pretty still (Ha! Get it?!) But the waves in this thing today, are massive! And you can kind of see to the right, the tops of the trees. With the entire truck submerged in the river. Just to give you an idea of how high it is.
--

The Deerfield River, flowing over Stillwater Road and into a field. There are several house on this road that we were told, were being evacuated. When we went down there a few hours ago, the people were just chillin' watching the water flow into their yards.
--

Above is a cow pasture. Believe it or not, under that water is was a field. The river is just on the other side of those trees in the background. Earlier today, the cows were stranded and had to be moved to another barn!
--

That red thing is a cooler! Other miscellaneous things we saw/heard about, floating down the river: tires (several of them), propane tanks, porter potties, trash and of course, trees.
--

as of now:
-- we still have power.. miraculously!
-- the bridge in the photos above is closed, due to the fact that materials and random items from other towns are floating down it and could be dangerous. Like propane tanks.
-- we have no new fire wood in our yard. Sad face.
-- the bridges on the highway are closed.
-- rt. 5 & 10 that runs along side the highway (a pretty major road around here), is closed due to flooding.
-- we still have plenty of beer to survive a few days if we lose power.

Stay safe friends! If you're on the east coast, let me know how you're doing!

Weekly Gratitude

8.27.2011

-- I am so thankful to the three talented, young ladies who came to my dance intensive. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves & maybe even learned something after the twenty five hours you spent with me.

-- To the man in the house. He always knows what to say. Always knows how to have a good time. And constantly reminds me that as long as we have each other, we'll survive anything.

-- Most importantly.. I'd be eternally grateful, if Irene leaves us the BLEEP! alone. Anything more than a watering for my tomato plants, will be a serious inconvenience for the entire East Coast. But so far, outlook not so good. She's headed straight for us!

Happy Hurricane Weekend Friends! Stay safe!
