Mike!

I'm doing something semi-crazy tonight. I am going to our school's modern dance company audition at 6:30. Not only is this alone complete torture.. but after, I am driving to Northampton (an hour and a half away) to go to a concert that starts at 10 o'clock. I'm kinda crazy. And sick! My mom tried to tell me that I shouldn't go because I'll be tired and it's not good to drive while you're sick.. but I'm going! Because it's Mike Doughty, and I love him! If you haven't heard of him, you should because I love his music! Anyway, I'm really excited and I am using that as motivation to get through this audition. Nailah is known for absolutely ridiculous insane movement that usually includes throwing yourself around like a sack of potatoes. It's probably hard for anyone other than us Dean Dancers, to understand why we would do something like that to our bodies - but it is so energizing and rewarding when you realize that you're still alive after one of her classes. It's pretty amazing! Today in our dance composition class with Nailah, we were separated into groups and told to create contact choreography for our show next Friday. At one point, the group of us five girls found ourselves piled on top of one another (sweaty and smelly from dancing all day) on the floor laughing hysterically at how we had just toppled over. It was such a good laugh. I wish I laughed like that more often. But it is memories like this one today, that I will think about when looking back at my years as a dance major. Those are the ones that matter to me the most!
